航空插頭是連接電氣線路的機電元件。因此航空插頭自身的電氣參數是選擇航空插頭首先要考慮的問題。

額定電壓又稱工作電壓,它主要取決于航空插頭所使用的絕緣材料,接觸對之間的間距大小。某些元件或裝置在低于其額定電壓時,可能不能完成其應有的功能。 航空插頭的額定電壓事實上應理解為生產廠推薦的最高工作電壓。原則上說,航空插頭在低于額定電壓下都能正常工作。筆者傾向于根據航空插頭的耐壓(抗電強度)指標,按照使用環境,安全等級要求來合理選用額定電壓。也就是說,相同的耐壓指標,根據不同的使用環境和安全要求,可使用到不同的最高工作電壓。這也比較符合客觀使用情況。
